Lucky?

Today I left my wife borrow my car today and missed a very important milestone in my VW’s life. This car and I have been all over the country, I originally bought in my home state of Pennsylvania back in the 90s. Well today the odometer turned to 77,777. It’s not like I have been counting down the days till that happened but I was bummed; okay I was bummed. All while my wife reveled in victory, posting to Twitter.

Dana did get lucky. She got a Sunday paper on Tuesday evening at 6 o’clock with all the coupons and Sunday Ads in tack. That’s hard to do in our town on Sunday at noon, let alone on three days later.

Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote: “Shallow men believe in luck and circumstance. Strong men believe in cause and effect.”  I think almost anyone would agree with this statement, but sometimes we don’t act like it.  We’ll make statements like, “just my luck” as though we’re destined to have bad things happen to us.

It is so very important that we realize there are certain actions we can take and attitudes we can hold that will make a difference in our future.  Otherwise we become victims rather than victors.  This approach won’t guarantee success everytime and in every situation.  But, I am convinced it will create a future where the opportunities for success are far greater.
